    The AWCS would like to invite you to a practical and interactive session on presentation skills, so you can get your messages across clearly, concisely and with confidence. This is a key skill required by all Company Secretaries – whether you’re selling yourself at an interview, presenting to clients or briefing the Board on a key item.

    Our guest speaker for this event is Simon Bucknall, twice UK & Ireland Champion of Public Speaking and an experienced Executive Speaker Coach.

    Harvey Coleman's research shows that being good at your job only counts for approximately 10% of the necessary criteria when it comes to being promoted. Janet Cooper and Shirley Cooper, our guest speakers for the evening will be explaining why it is so important to raise your profile both internally within your organisation and externally, and how best to do this.

    The session will aim to cover tips on conversing with your manager about your career prospects as well as what you need to do with your LinkedIn profile to ensure you stand out from the crowd.

    Join us for another opportunity to hear about the findings of the recent ICSA report, The Company Secretary, Building Trust Through Governance, which explores the value of the company secretary and their impact in the boardroom.

    In this event the ICSA Policy Director Peter Swabey will examine the report’s findings, and will explore perceptions of the role of the company secretary. He will reflect in particular upon the role the company secretary can play in delivering value to organisations, and the influential position the secretary holds in supporting the board and in being the ultimate guardian of governance.

    This event is of particular relevance to AWCS members and also to chief executives, chairmen, risk and compliance officers, and finance and HR directors. Peter will offer practical insights into how to get the most out of the company secretary role in your organisation, the impact on the role of changes in business environment and the effect they are having for all players in the boardroom.

    The AWCS would like to invite you to a practical and interactive session on effective minute writing.

    Minute writing is often thought of as an art rather than a science and boards rely on their company secretary’s skill and judgement to produce a crucial record of the meeting. Despite their importance, there is limited guidance for company secretaries on the right amount of detail to include in minutes and how to produce them quickly and easily.

    Pippa Begg of Board Intelligence, will be leading a panel discussion with company secretaries and legal experts Jane Earl, Victoria Penrice and Catherine Roberts to share their tips and tricks to produce effective minutes, and what to expect when minutes are externally examined.
